When a tree has to come down
Not every tree needs removing, and we will tell you when one does not. The trees that genuinely have to go usually fall into a few groups. Open-yard removals and technical removals are different jobs
If a tree has room to fall, removal is straightforward. We set the notch, put it on the ground in one piece, and clean up. Most rural and acreage work looks like this and it is the fastest and least expensive way to take a tree down. The other kind is technical. When there is a house, a garage, a septic tank, a power drop or a neighbor's fence inside the fall zone, the tree comes down in pieces, on ropes, in an order worked out before the first cut. That takes longer and costs more, and it is the work we get called for most.
What we do about your lawn
Getting equipment to a tree is usually the part homeowners worry about, and they are right to. A loaded grapple truck on soft spring ground will leave ruts you are looking at all summer. We run lawn protection mats where the equipment travels, and when a job can wait we will suggest booking it for winter instead. Frozen ground carries the weight, so the same removal that would chew up a yard in April leaves almost no trace in January.
What happens to the wood
Brush goes through the chipper. Trunk wood gets loaded and hauled unless you want it. Plenty of people around here want the oak and ash bucked into rounds and left stacked for firewood, which is no trouble and saves us the haul. Say so during the estimate and we will leave it where you want it. If you would rather have the chips for a bed or a trail, we can leave those too.
